DITC Framed Prints

Summer 2023. Getting ready for a handful of book signing events to go along with the reprint of Blotto’s Phone Book, and I went diggin’ in the crates. And by digging in the crates, I mean scouring all my ‘best kept secret’ secondhand shops around town for used frames. All colors, shapes and sizes were game, and every mission seemed to produce a hearty crop! After bringing a stack of fresh finds back to the studio, each one would get a proper inspection, clean up, mounting hardware, and of course selection of the perfect image. In the spirit of up-cycling, the photographs I was selecting from were all from previous test prints for various other books and projects; prints that otherwise wouldn’t have seen much use.
Fall 2023. Time to hit the road for book parties. For each stop, I would pull out 10-15 of the framed prints and they were offered to the first book purchasers of the evening. So on top of the stoke of getting their hands on a new book, there was plenty of excitement and some lively debate as people were picking which photo (and frame!) they’d be walking away with. The entire DITC project, matching thrifted frames to orphaned test prints, brought new life to used articles and it puts a smile on my face knowing they’ve all found a new home.
Summer 2024. Not quite here yet, but I’m already planning to grow the DITC project with new chances to snag one, or maybe even a whole clip.
