Tidal Residency

TIDAL 2025…WOW! Where to start…got a call from Aaron Schwartz and Nick Bridge asking if I’d like to join nine other artists atop Laax Mountain for a residency to create as much art as possible for five days, then move it down valley to the Rider’s Hotel for the opening. The offer was pretty much a YES straight away! A couple months later I arrived in Switzerland, bags and board in hand, to meet my fellow artists at The Bridge, ready to connect, paint, and snowboard.
After coming to the realization I was actually doing this, it was time to start creating art…atop Laax...WTF! We could do whatever we chose with our time and our processes, no rules, just have fun and make art. Sunrise coffee on the top deck, 08:30 fresh groomers, afternoon soup on the NoName deck, using all remaining hours throwing paint, recording sound, taking photos and video editing. The mix of talent and creativity was so motivating, it was non-stop, repeated daily.
Thursday eventually arrived, and so did the call to move the completed works down to the Rider’s Club and begin set-up for the openings. The next step in the creation of Tidal 2025 was underway. Spending 24-hours with the production team transforming the Rider’s Club into an art gallery was equal parts fun and laughter to what our squad had been doing 2,000 meters up the mountain side days previous.
Once the Friday opening kicked off, it was time to relax and enjoy what we had created as a group…and that’s what we did with family, friends, and attendees for two big nights. It was super rad to see the walls and rooms decked out with original works and concepts, and all those enjoying it. Big round of applause for those who pulled up from far and wide.
I can’t find enough words to express how thankful I am for this opportunity. I’m forever grateful the Tidal creators included me on this adventure. I’m so thrilled to have shared this space with my fellow artists, every one of you are a true talent. Of course, a huge Thank You to Laax for hosting this event and keeping an open mind and heart for the arts and snowboarding.
